To all investor friends, we are thinking about doing a rebrand before raising our Series A. How important is this to you? Having a beautiful, clear, compelling website? We are a deeptech company, does this matter?

Deep tech LP here. IMO don’t spend a lot of cash or time on it, but looking polished helps send investors the right message (even if they’re subconscious).

That's what we figured too. On a subconscious level, even if investors say it doesn't matter so much. At least for myself, when I got to a polished website it gives me a sense of "these guys have their stuff together. Thank you!

Nothing wrong with the brand, its a distraction - go raise 🙂

A nice clean and simple design will probably help you, but it’s probably more important to really nail your positioning and messaging. How precise can you be about exactly who you are selling to and what benefits you provide them? I’d put most of your time there. It’s surprisingly hard, and most startups don’t do it well.

My two cents having gone through this process recently: Potential investors, existing investors, and prospects with whom we've PoC'd came back and said: your value prop isn't clear, website too flashy and barebones, only giving you a second look becuase the founders are a strong technical team with credentials. In my view, a well-designed landing page that explains what you do, what problem you solve, who you solve it for, and how well you solve it is all investors are looking for at this point. It's almost funny to discuss branding at a point where there isn't even an in-production product with actual users who have an attachment to it which they can provide feedback on. I spent years in agencies selling such services. It's usually all hype. Don't believe me? check out base44. Almost 0 branding, generic website, on track to 20m ARR solo founder. But the website is clear, works well, identifies its target audience
